My Experience: When viewing analog 480i using just rabbit-ears, this is still the best television I have ever owned. Switch over to DT using just the same rabbit-ears w/UHF loop and I am blown away by the clarity and relative brightness. (I actually turned down the brightness from the default setting.) Native 720p, shows 1080i as 720p, but I would certainly not refer to that as a 'downconversion', as both signals are HD. I have not seen JVCs new 1080p television. I would think you would have to have an awfully good eye to tell any difference. I rated the Value for the Money as average because the relative cost of ceiling mounted HD projectors are much lower.
Problems: None yet. The television internal lamp requires a 90 sec cool down period when shutting down. If you live in an area that has frequent power outages as I do, be aware this may / will shorten the life of the replaceable internal lamp should the television suddenly lose power while on. Cost is several hundred dollars, I am told...When picking up (free) DT just using a plain UHF antenna, you may have to experiment with rotating or a stronger antenna depending on where you live. Obviously sattelite or cable are your other options. |
