The LA8600 series sits at the top of the 2013 line of LG's 1080p LED HDTVs and this Smart TV earns its stripes with apps and streaming content providers galore.

The TV's performance is top notch. If you are a 3D fan, you will be especially pleased with how well it handles 3D content.

The LG 55LA8600 is also overflowing with specialty features like voice recognition and motion control and it supplies a built-in Wi-Fi adapter as well as a TV camera.

With all the goodies, the TV is still easy to use, in big part because of the handy Magic remote control.

(Editor's Note: Currently LG makes only two sizes of the LA8600 series, the 55-inch 55LA8600 being appraised here and the 60-inch 60LA8600. This review can apply to both.)

Our Star Ratings
Performance: 4.04.0 Star Rating
The LG's 55LA8600 video quality is excellent. The adjustment tools provide the ability to tweak the display to your taste. Even with the addition of a built-in subwoofer, the 2.1 audio system does not do the video justice.
Features:5.0 5 Star Rating
LG has stuffed almost every conceivable feature into this TV, built-in Wi-Fi, an integrated video camera for Skyping, apps and more apps, 3D, NFC, ARC and MHL support and voice recognition and motion control for good measure.
Ease of Use: 4.0 4.0 Star Rating
With all those features, it's refreshing to discover that the TV is still fairly easy to set up and use. But if you want to take advantage of all LG is offering, expect to schedule some study time.
Value: 4.5 4.5 Star Rating
On their website, LG lists the suggested price for the 55LA8600 as $2699, which is competitive for a completely, fully-featured 55-inch LED backlit HDTV. But I'm finding the TV for under $2000 at some online retailers. Even at that reduction, you can find many 55-inch Smart TVs at almost half the cost, admittedly without all the treats the LG 55LA8600 offers.
Star Ratings Description
Ratings are relative to when the review was written. The obvious example is Value, what you could purchase for $2000 two years ago or even two months ago would seem like a bad value for that price now. We give very few 5 Star ratings, which we reserve for truly outstanding accomplishment.
