My Experience: I have had my hl-s6187w for two weeks now. It took me a little while to get past the beautiful image quality to give a proper review. If you are looking for a display to be used with an upconverting DVD player or Blue-Ray/HD-DVD player than I recommend this set 100% From what I have seen (after adjusting picture settings to your taste) not even the SXRD can match this samsung 7th gen. DLP under these conditions. If you are wanting to watch HD-TV, this TV will not work as well with 720I/P signals as other HD sets, although it looks good 90% of the time fast motion(basketball games) tends to get a little distorted.

So, I feel the image is great, one of the best, now on to features. On screen menu's are a big step up from previous models, easy to use, transparent and right there on the main menu is a map of all the menus that you can brouse through very quickly. I miss the Picture-In-Picture that comes standard with the Sony SXRD's, and you need a cable top box for HD cable/Satellite. Image inhancement program DNIe makes the picture grainy and unnatural, but with it off, picture is perfect.

Construction is wonderful. The TV's fans and moving parts are nearly inaudible (must be within 3ft with no noise in the area) and bulb swapping looks like a snap. There are instructions in the manual about how to do the bulb changing properly, all you need is a replacement bulb and a phillips head screwdriver. The black gloss finish on the boarders around the screen looks awsome with any black gloss entertainment stand. My wife actually thinks that it adds beauty to the living room instead of distracting from the feng-shui of her carefully prepared room. The set weighs 101lbs in it's packing material and 80 on it's own.

Ease of Use. Menu's are very simple for the most part and are easy to navigate. There is a description of each option in the menu to help you on your way. Some funtions will not work with different inputs, just look at the users manual to find out how to set them up. TV auto-detects which inputs are being used and you only have to scroll through the ones hooked up when selecting your input source with the remote, Nice! Also all you customised settings remain in memory for each input, so if you like MOVIE picture mode on your HDMI inputs, you won't have to change to CUSTOM picture mode for your cable input, the TV remembers for you.

Reliability. As with all projection screen TV's the bulb WILL burn out, if you do not have the confidence to change one out yourself, please purchase a bulb service plan so you will not be blindsided by a $500.00-$700.00 bulb replacement bill from the TV repairman (bulb costs $250.00) after 20000 hours of use. This TV will not burn in like a CRT, it will not dim out and die like a plasma, and it's screen is bright enough to operate in direct sunlight, unlike LCDs.

Value for the money. This TV represents the best value I have seen in any non-crt big screen HD-TV. The 1080P input capability combined with the 1920X1080 native resolution make for an amazing picture, and make this TV able to fully utilize Blue-Ray and HD-DVD, not to mention Playstation3. Retail in the stores is around $3399.00 at most spots, online I've seen as low as $2650.00 from a reputible company. Beware, this TV is back-ordered all over the place, be prepared for a 30 day wait for your new TV! Rest assured it will be worth it, but you may get more consumer pleasure from purchasing at the big chain stores, who seem to be the only ones who can get it quickly. With the image quality, ease of use and lovely appearance this TV is one of the best values out there.

Please see this TV at one of the big stores before buying. Adjust the picture menu to STANDARD mode or if you're brave adjust the custom picture to: Cont.55, Bright.45, Sharp.45, Color.50, then shut DNIe off for goodness sake. After these things are done, re-evaluate the picture against it's competitors, also if you want it for movies ask for an upconverting DVD player feed, so you can see it shine!

Problems: No real problems, just some minor complaints. I want Picture in picture, I want a built in HDTV cable tuner with a cable card slot. That's it!
