My Experience: In a word:
Wonderful. In a few words: Pricier than entry-level 32" models that cost $200~$500 less, but you get what you pay for - in terms of image quality and, based on reviews of earlier models from the same companies, product quality. In many, meandering words: Having looked at numerous brands, I ultimately chose Sony's model despite its higher cost. Most of the competitors' models - especially when sat next to the Sony for direct analysis - lacked clear whites, crisp image detail, clean detail (few jagged images), vivid color, and sound quality (built-in speakers and any unusual noises made by the set.) The menu system on the Sony is rich, in-depth, easy to navigate*, and allows customizing every conceivable aspect of image - this makes calibration a breeze. Including well designed noise and and DVD (MPEG) compression filtering. This set is definitely for videophiles. And, honestly, anybody wanting a set 32" or higher is going to appreciate the differences. In some cases, especially when comparing to the low-end (cheapest) products, the differences are literally "night and day". Spend the extra money. You will have no regrets. * See 'Problems' section for my one and only gripe. Apart from price because I love to whine and I'm stingy. Addendum: If I sound like a shill for Sony, I am not. Problems: The menu system is a tad slow for my liking, but having been diagnosed with ADD it's just possible I'm being too critical. This is why "Ease of use" is rated only as "Good". |
