Performance

As I mentioned in the Introduction, when it comes to Picture Quality (PQ), this Sony 46HX750 proves to be an unassuming gem of an HDTV.

Sony provides plenty of tools to adjust the picture to your taste. For me, I'm looking for lifelike skin tones that are smoothly rendered. And I appreciate deep rich colors that are not pumped up on Vivid steroids. The HX750 delivers, not surprisingly since it does employ a frame dimming feature.

Many TVs, (especially larger ones), with the Edge-lit LED backlight technology tend to "bloom" along the edges of the screen. I don't see this artifact on the HX750.

As for 3D, Sony has adopted the active shutter method of display, which requires the battery powered shutter glasses. And though it should be a minor annoyance, I always chafe when I go to watch a 3D Blu-ray and discover that the battery needs to be replaced. Sony KDL-46HX750 3D

I did notice that when you tilt your head too far with these glasses, the two 3D images start to separate and the color turns greenish. You do need to keep your head close to upright. Other than that, watching the 3D version of Brave was a treat, though much of the credit should go to the animators at Pixar.

The integrated audio system on Sony TVs customarily has been above average and the HX750 upholds that tradition. With that said your ears and your TV's PQ will be better served with a separate sound system. If you don't have one already, budget for at least a nice sound bar.

Conclusion

The LED Edge-lit 3D Sony KDL-46HX750 supplies excellent picture quality and an ark full of Internet content providers. If you can find this feature-laden TV on sale, it should become a serious contender for your hard earned dollars.
