My Experience: i have only had it for 2 weeks but its the best deal ive had in a while. crystal clear picture and 1080p for an average price (usually $1100 though i got it for $800 w/ a coupon = great deal!). i saw an earliar post from someone who said they felt disappointed getting this tv also at $800 with a coupon for $300 off (normally $1100) all i can say is you lost out on a great deal! you wont find a brand new 42' LCD TV (1080p) with a full warranty for $800. maybe online you could happen to get lucky with an ebay auction or maybe a refurbished unit however both ebay and refurbished usually means a used and or fixed unit with a very limited warranty and alot of times there is NO warranty and even NO returns! ive seen refurbished 42' LCD 1080p's with no warranty and no returns allowed for $800- good luck with that though as its more of a gamble than a deal ;) also you stated the 8ms response time is "barely adequate", i find that a very misleading description as the lcd response on this tv is just fine and and im definately a nit picker when it comes to image quality. sure it may blur (only in cases of very fast motion on the screen) if your playing a very fast paced video game or watching something like a race though the effect is so very slight you wouldnt even notice it and probably never would unless you are purposely making a point of trying to see it. though if your going to that extreme than you are pretty much going to notice that with almost ANY LCD tv as its the nature of the beast for most LCD's out there, except for of course the top of the line units. to say going from a CRT to this for only $800 was a "dissapointment" is just plain silly and mostly wrong as there is a HUGE diffrence in quality. though purchasing this at the normal price of $1100 is pretty average in terms of price and im sure you could find a good amount of LCD tv's with the same features at this price but even still it would be more than worth considering!
