LG ELECTRONICS DELIVERS SUPERIOR MICRODISPLAY PERFORMANCE WITH INNOVATIVE LCoS TECHNOLOGY AT 2006 CES

71-, 62-, 56- and 52-inch Widescreen Rear-Projection Digital Cable Ready HDTVs Combine Big Picture and Value

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 5, 2006 – Underscoring its role as a leading provider of premium digital television (DTV) solutions, LG Electronics introduced a new line of high-performance microdisplay models – led by a series of 1080p rear-projection HDTVs powered by liquid crystal on silicon (LCoS) technology. Demonstrated at the 2006 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), two widescreen Digital Cable Ready HDTVs, highlighting LG's six-model microdisplay HDTV family for 2006, bring premium cable programming to the screen without the need for a separate set-top box, offering a cost-effective alternative to flat panel technology.

LG's microdisplay HDTV family includes proprietary XD Engine™ technology that takes low-resolution analog signals to near high-definition levels, enhancing overall picture quality and providing a more pleasant viewing experience. These products will be on display this week at CES (Booth #8214, Central Hall, Las Vegas Convention Center).

The flagship model is LG's 71-inch HDTV (71SA1D). Built around three-chip LCoS technology, this model provides powerful, high-quality HDTV viewing experiences and includes the Gemstar TV Guide Onscreen interactive program guide, allowing viewers easier program navigation. Additional features include HDMI, IEEE 1394 DTV link and 9-in-2 memory card slots. This 1080p set and LG's 62-inch 1080p LCoS Model 62SA1D are planned for first-quarter 2006 availability.

Completing the 2006 microdisplay HDTV line are four 720P DLPs: LG-brand 62-inch Model 62SX4D and 52-inch 52SX4D, continuing from the 2005 line, both with Gemstar guide, and two Zenith-brand models, the 62-inch Model Z62DC1D and 56-inch Model Z56DC1D, also available in the first quarter. These sets all feature LG's industry-leading VSB/QAM digital tuner chipset for optimal reception.
