JVC to Market New 42" and 50" HD Plasma TVs

Two models feature ATSC tuners, CableCARD™ compatibility, HDMI inputs and JVC’s new Five-Point Color Management

LAS VEGAS, January 6, 2005 – JVC will field two new high definition plasma displays this year, 42- and 50-inch models that offer ATSC and CableCARD™ tuners and a new generation of JVC's exclusive color management technology.

JVC's new 42- and 50-inch HD plasma displays will offer XGA resolution (42V1024 x 768, 50V 1366 x 768), the company's fourth generation Digital Image Scaling Technology (D.I.S.T.) and GENESSA, a new 32-bit CPU dedicated to controlling picture refinement. JVC's D.I.S.T. uses an exclusive digital algorithm to upconvert any video source to 770p. Jagged lines inherent in the original source are smoothed and vertical resolution enhanced. Another exclusive is JVC's Five-Point Color Management, a new generation of this technology that samples red, green, blue, yellow and flesh tones and adjusts each separately to delivers vivid color reproduction.

Other features include HDMI inputs and dual IEEE 1394 inputs. The 42-inch PD-42X776 includes integrated ATSC and CableCARD tuning, while those functions are contained within a separate tuner box on the 50-inch PD-50X776.

"Our message with these latest plasma displays is that picture quality is what counts," said Dan McCarron, National Product Manager, Consumer Display Division, JVC Company of America. "Thanks to several exclusive JVC technologies, we can deliver video performance far superior to what competing plasmas offer."

JVC's new plasmas also offer JVC's HD DSD (Digital Super Detail) edge enhancement, which is active on still, fast and slow motion areas of the picture for crisp defined edges. The products are further - 2 - strengthened by the addition of Dynamic Gamma Control Circuitry and such home theater features such as TheaterPro D6500K color temperature, Digital Noise Clear Circuitry, Interactive Plug-in Menu, XDS ID display, and Natural Cinema 3-2 pull down with on/off capability for all telecine sources.

Picture quality is further enhanced through JVC's unique Natural Progressive picture improvement technologies that optimize signal quality before the picture is displayed on the screen. JVC's 10.95 million pixel Natural Progressive technology doubles the image data in each field and uses advanced 3D interpolation to display a solid image without any noticeable scanning lines and eliminates jagged edge noise and image trails. The sets also include an NTSC tuner with split screen and POP.

An HDMI compatible input with HDCP (High Definition Content Protection) offers an uncompressed solution to the transmission and display of high definition video and audio content. Also included are dual auto sensing component video inputs, assuring the best possible picture quality whether a viewer is using DTV, D-VHS or DVD, three S-Video inputs (two rear, one front), four AV inputs (three rear, one front) and a PC input.
