Zenith Expands Digital Display Solutions for Custom-Installation Home Theater Market
New Brighter, Clearer Plasma, LCD Monitors and HDTVs Extend Options and Opportunities for Professional Installers
INDIANAPOLIS September 5, 2003 -- Zenith Electronics Corporation, a wholly
owned subsidiary of LG Electronics Inc., is demonstrating a broad array of new
DTV products and entertainment solutions — including new plasma monitors, LCD
displays, rear-projection HD monitors and more — at CEDIA Expo 2003, which opens
here today.
Building on its base of established digital products, Zenith is adding a
series of fresh new models, some now shipping, designed to serve the custom
installation home theater market. Included in the models are new plasma and LCD
technologies that raise picture quality and viewing comfort to new levels.
Zenith's custom installation solutions reflect the company's long-time
leadership in HDTV — Zenith is a primary developer of the U.S. DTV broadcast
standard — as well as the display technologies of its parent company, LG
Electronics.
Plasma Display Panels
Zenith's big, flat, thin, hang-on-the-wall displays are designed for use in a
broader variety of home entertainment environments than ever before, including
home theaters, living rooms, bed-rooms and multiple-use areas within the home.
New Zenith-brand plasmas include the 60-inch P60W38 Widescreen HDTV Monitor, the
50-inch P50W38 Widescreen HDTV Monitor, and the 42-inch P42W34 Widescreen EDTV
(enhanced definition) Monitor.
All three models, all less than four inches thick, are equipped with LG
Electronics' high-contrast, high-brightness plasma panels that feature contrast
ratios of 1000:1 and peak brightness levels of 1,000 candelas/square meter for
picture quality extraordinary in its clarity and brightness, even in well-lit
rooms.
In addition to the new panel, the ultra-thin P60W38 HDTV Monitor features a
high 1366 x 768p resolution capability that assures outstanding quality from a
broad range of inputs, including Component, Composite, S-Video, RGB (VGA, SVGA,
XGA and SXGA), and RS-232. Zenith's Intelligent Image Scaling™ seamlessly
converts TV video data to PC formats without distortion or image cropping in
either 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratios. A picture-in-picture mode adds viewing
flexibility, especially when used with a computer, and built-in aspect ratio
correction allows the intelligent resiz-ing of video and computer images to 16:9
or 4:3 formats.
A Digital Visual Interface (DVI) with High Bandwidth Digital Content
Protection (HDCP) provides for uncompressed transfer of high-definition video
from a digital video source to a digital display device. The monitor also is
available as the P60W38H, specially adapted for high altitudes. The P60W38 and
P60W38H will be available in October at a suggested price of $14,999 each.
The P50W38 HDTV Monitor features a high 1366 x 768p resolution for
outstanding clarity, as well as a DCDI De-Interlacer by Faroudja®, Intelligent
Image Scaling, and built-in aspect ratio correction. As in the P60W38, the new
plasma panel provides a 1000:1 contrast ratio and a peak brightness of 1,000
candelas/square meter. Image Scaling seamlessly converts TV video data to PC
formats without distortion or image cropping in either 4:3 or 16:9 aspect
ratios. Special picture or-biter and whitewash functions prevent burn-in and
ensure long life. A range of inputs, including RS-232, provides full
compatibility with DVDs, computers, digital broadcasting, multimedia, and
traditional video sources, while DVI with HDCP provides for uncompressed digital
transfers of high-definition video. The monitor also is available as the
P50W38H, specially adapted for high altitudes. Both the P50W38 and P50W38H will
be available later this month at a suggested price of $8,999 each.
The widescreen P42W34 EDTV Monitor delivers a high-quality 852 x 480p
resolution picture. Features include a new high-performance panel, a "piggyback"
NTSC tuner, Intelligent Image Scaling, built-in aspect ratio correction, picture
orbiter and whitewash functions for burn-in prevention, DVI with HDCP, and
RS-232 controls. Additional inputs are provided for Composite, Component,
S-Video and RGB (VGA and SVGA), assuring compatibility with digital and
traditional video sources. The monitor also is available as the P42W34H, adapted
for high altitudes. Both the P42W34 and P42W34H will be available later this
month at a suggested price of $3,999 each.
All the plasma monitors can be mounted on an optional tabletop pedestal, or
with optional wall-mounting hardware. Optional speakers and speaker stands also
are available.
LCD Monitors and TVs
Zenith's growing family of LCD TVs includes a series of versatile models that
share a stream-lined design built around the advanced display technology
developed by Zenith's parent company, LG Electronics Inc.
Several of the models feature LG's "Super In Plane Switching" (Super IPS)
technology, which delivers unprecedented horizontal and vertical viewing angles
of 176 degrees — virtually equaling those of CRTs, and ensuring better, clearer
pictures from off-center seating positions than previously possible. Super IPS
uses a switching mode that treats light passing through the display at an angle
virtually the same as light passing straight through the display. As a result,
brightness, contrast and color are rendered much more evenly, regardless of
where viewers sit. LCD displays employing Super IPS provide the widest viewing
angle, the best overall color performance, and response times among the fastest
in the industry.
Zenith's new models include the 23-inch L23W36 Widescreen HDTV Monitor, the
20.1-inch L20V36 EDTV Monitor, the 17-inch L17W36 Widescreen HDTV Monitor, the
15.1-inch L15V36 HDTV Monitor, and the 13-inch L13V36 HDTV Monitor. All but the
latter boast Super IPS.
The L23W36 Widescreen HDTV Monitor, designed around Zenith's first 23-inch
LCD screen, features Super IPS technology, Faroudja DCDI De-Interlacer
processing, and a 50,000-hour longer-life internal lamp. Its 1280 x 768 W-XGA
native resolution makes it suitable for both television and computer display.
The high-performance picture is enhanced by superior 400:1 contrast and an
exceptional peak brightness of 450 candelas/square meter. A built-in NTSC tuner
accepts cable/antenna, HDTV, satellite dish and NTSC video sources. Standardized
VESA-mounting com-patibility adds convenience. The L23W36 will be available

x 480 resolution picture enhanced by a high 400:1 contrast ratio and an
exceptional peak brightness of 450 candelas/square meter. Hi-Res Com-ponent,
S-Video, RF and AV inputs assure compatibility with digital and traditional
video sources. Standardized VESA-mounting compatibility adds convenience. The

768 W-XGA native resolution suitable for television and computer display, Super
IPS technology, Faroudja DCDI De-Interlacer processing, and a 50,000-hour
longer-life internal lamp. The high-performance picture is enhanced by a 400:1
contrast ratio and an exceptional peak brightness of 450 candelas/square meter.
Standardized VESA-mounting compatibility adds convenience. The L17W36 is
available now at a suggested price of $1,299.
The new L15V36 HDTV/PC Monitor — designed around a 15.1-inch, 4:3 formatted
screen — comes packed with features, including Super IPS technology, a new
50,000-hour longer-life internal lamp, RGB inputs and Faroudja DCDI De-Interlacer
processing. The built-in NTSC tuner complements HD-quality 1024 x 768 XGA native
