SAMSUNG Launches World's First And Largest 1080P DLP™ TVs For A New Era In Home Entertainment

Flagship HLR5688W Pedestal DLP TV Combines Samsung’s CinemaSmooth Generation 5 Optical Engine and the new 1080I Micro-Display for the Ultimate Home Theater Experience; 67” HLR6768W Offers 1080P on World’s Biggest DLP TV Screen

Las Vegas, NV - DTV visionary Samsung Electronics America, Inc., a global leader in the home cinema industry, introduces the 5th Generation of DLP TVs, led by the HLR5688W, the very first available 1080P DLP TV. Samsung also announces the groundbreaking 68-Series, featuring the largest DLP screen ever at 67". This year's line of new DLP TVs once again demonstrates Samsung's commitment to advancing DLP technology, while maintaining the perfect balance of price, performance and form factor. Samsung's full lineup of DLP TVs will be on display during CES 2005 in the Samsung booth, #11024 in the Central Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center from January 6th - 9th.

"Samsung has long been recognized as a digital television pioneer, and this next-generation of DLP TVs is our most ambitious yet. The 1920 x 1080 pixel progressive display gives our customers perfectly smooth, cinema film quality HD video and unprecedented image clarity," said Steve Panosian, Director of Marketing for Samsung's Visual Display Group. "The days of reduced picture quality on larger screens are ancient history. With top-of-the-line high-definition video conversion, Samsung's 2005 DLP models turn any programming into a captivating, theater-quality experience."

World's First 1080P DLP
The 56" HLR5688W pedestal DLP is the very first 1080P DLP TV to hit the market. The Cinema Smoothä Optical Engine provides super-high (1920 x 1080) pixel density and progressive scanning for matchless video-image quality. The 5000:1 contrast ratio keeps colors lifelike and vibrant, while Samsung's enhanced Digital Natural Image Engine (DNIe™) takes the signal from any kind of input and turns it into a stunning picture. The set is Digital Cable Ready (DCR) with a built-in CableCARD™ eliminating the need for a set-top box for digital cable program viewing.

The unique pedestal display showcases Samsung's design ingenuity and ensures that the set "Fits Where Others Won't." The DLP TV utilizes Samsung's AnyNet™ System Solution providing simple one-touch control for home theater equipment. Two High-Definition Multimedia Interfaces (HDMI™) ensure optimal signal transmission from DVD players and other digital devices. Cinema Film Mode, 3:2 pull down and a robust 30-watts of audio power complete the home theater experience. The 50" model, HLR5087W, incorporates the same features with a Cinema Smooth™ 720P engine and a single HDMI. Both models will be available in February 2005. The HLR5087W has a $3,699 MSRP. The HLR5688W has a $4,999 MSRP.

World's Largest DLP TV at 67"
Samsung's top-of-the-line HLR6768W makes digital television history with a 67" screen, the largest ever in a DLP TV. But that's just the tip of the innovation iceberg for the 68 series of Samsung DLPs. A unique floating screen design separates the screen and bezel from its base to create a stunning visual effect even when the set is off. The cutting-edge Cinema Smooth™ Generation 5 HD 1080P engine provides the highest available level of image precision and flicker-free playback in a DLP TV, and the 30 watts of audio provides ample sound for operating independently of a surround sound system.

The 68 series features the latest version of Samsung's celebrated DNIeä technology that combines a detail optimizer, motion optimizer, contrast enhancer and color optimizer to provide superior picture quality. The 68 series offers the ultimate in device connectivity with two HDM inputs, two component inputs, two composite video & one S-Video. Each model features an ATSC Tuner / NTSC Tuner, and the sets are Digital Cable Ready (DCR) with built-in CableCARD™. Cinema Film Mode 3:2 pull down and the Samsung AnyNet™ System Solution complete the package for the ultimate in performance and convenience. The 67" HLR6768W will be available in June 2005 for an MSRP of $6,999. Additional models in the series include: the 56" HLR5668W will be available in June 2005 at $4,199 MSRP. The 56" HLR6168W will also be available in June 2005, for an MSRP of $4,499.

"Watching sporting events on the HLR6768W is almost better than being there," said Panosian. "The winning combination of best-in-class image resolution, DLP technology and a huge screen places Samsung's customers right in the center of the game. Film aficionados will be blown away by the quality of their DVD playback - it is a truly cinematic experience."

Also on display at CES 2005 is Samsung's 67 Series of DLP televisions. The core series features an elegant, table-top casing incorporating Samsung's striking new floating screen design. Ranging from 12" to 17" deep, and weighing from under 70 to 120 pounds, the 67 Series provides a slim, lightweight addition to any home décor. All of the sets feature an ATSC Tuner / NTSC Tuner, Digital Cable Ready (DCR) with built-in CableCARD™, and Samsung's convenient AnyNet™ System Solution. The Cinema Smooth™ 720P Engine, enhanced DNIe™ and 30 watts of audio power ensure that each model produces superior video and sound quality, bringing home theater to the next level.

All four models in the 67 Series will be available in April 2005. The 46" HLR4667W will be positioned at MSRP $2,699. The 50" HLR5067W will be positioned at MSRP $2,999. The 56" HLR5667W will be positioned at MSRP $3,499. The 61" HLR6167W will be positioned at MSRP $3,799.
