RCA INTRODUCES AFFORDABLE ULTRA HD TVS AT 2014 INTERNATIONAL CES

Lineup Includes 55-, 65- and 84-inch Models with Smart TV Functionality

Las Vegas, NV, January 7, 2014 – RCA is entering the Ultra HD TV market with three TVs capable of displaying stunning images with more than 8 million pixels, or four times the resolution of standard high-definition televisions. The three competitively priced models, in 55-, 65-, and 84-inch screen sizes, are LED-backlit LCD sets. The RCA brand is owned by Technicolor and is licensed to On Corporation for manufacturing and distribution.

In addition to a native “4K” resolution of 3840 x 2160, the new models boast Smart TV functionality for vastly expanded program options and an ultra-thin bezel that lends the TVs a chic “all screen” appearance.

“Our first Ultra HD TVs are priced very competitively because we anticipate 2014 to be a pivotal year for this new class of TVs as more consumers become exposed to the striking picture quality that is possible with virtually any source material,” said Jonathan Zupnik, Executive Vice President of Marketing for On Corporation. “In addition to moving beyond the capabilities of standard HDTV, these sets are equipped with Smart TV features to meet the growing consumer demand for a simple, convenient way to stream movies, TV shows, and other Internet content alongside cable/satellite-delivered programming.”

The Android (formerly Google) TV platform built into each set provides an integrated onscreen interface with access to cable/satellite TV, apps and online content, including more than 100,000 on-demand movies and TV episodes and thousands of YouTube channels. Smart features include:

  • Google Chrome web browser
  • Google’s PrimeTime guide, which lets you browse channels while streaming or watching live TV and makes recommendations of shows you might be interested in based on personal preferences
  • Google TV Search for quickly finding shows by title, channel name, actor, genre and more

The new Ultra HD TVs also support the Wi-Fi-based Miracast standard, which enables Android smartphone, tablet and PC interfaces to be mirrored onto the TV screen so photos, video clips, movies and other content stored on those devices can be enjoyed on the TV screen at resolutions up to 1080p without having to mess with wires.

All models use a combination of direct and edge-lit LED backlighting for improved picture performance and offer four HDMI inputs as well as composite- and component-video inputs, a digital audio output and a headphone jack.

The three new models are:

  • 55-inch – Model SLD55A65RXQ
  • 65- inch – Model SLD65A70RXQ
  • 84-inch – Model SLD84A65RXQ
