Range showcases launch of 32" and 42" LCD displays featuring Sony's WEGA engine technology and the introduction of 17" and 19" multifunctional LCD screens

Amsterdam, 26th January 2005 – Sony will be demonstrating its experience in display technology at ISE (Stand 318) with a vast line-up of 17 to 50-inch LCD and plasma public displays.

Combining a strong emphasis on image quality and intelligent software, Sony's flat displays are designed for easy integration in businesses, large venues such as airports and railway stations, the retail environment, universities, homes and in all public places where drawing visitors' attention is key. In fact, the digital signage featured around halls at Integrated Systems Europe is all Sony equipment, PFM-42X1N plasma screens.

At ISE, the latest 32-inch and 42-inch LCD displays, the FWD-32LX1 and FWD-42LX1, will be introduced. These feature Sony's unique WEGA engine specifically designed to ensure effortless video playback and image display from analogue and digital sources and for smooth integration in "heavy duty" environments, where reliability, style and versatility together with outstanding image quality are essential.

Luc Joosens, Marketing Manager, Sony Communication Displays Europe said: "With the completion of our range of plasma and LCD displays, businesses can continue to rely on Sony for a choice of the best flat displays to meet the requirements of their specific industries. Both technological innovation and effortless integration are essential to capture the tremendous growth opportunities in this market."

Also new in Amsterdam, will be Sony's 17-inch and 19-inch multifunctional LCD displays, the MFM-HT75W and MFM-HT95, featuring a complete new design with both PC connectivity, TV tuner and speakers, for use at home as a second set, or in the home office.

Products to be featured at ISE are:

Ideal as a multimedia centre, this multi-functional 17-inch wide monitor offers a maximum connectivity to different IT and AV devices, such as computers, DVDs, PlayStations and cameras. It features an integrated TV-tuner with Teletext, Sony's X-black technology for very high brightness, sharp contrasts and superior colours and also offers the possibility for composite/S-Video and component video input. Setting a new standard for multi-function displays, the wide resolution, 1280x768 (WXGA) monitor features Picture in Picture (PiP), enabling users to work and watch TV simultaneously.

Equally ideal as a multimedia centre, this 19-inch multi-functional monitor, with maximum connectivity to IT and AV devices, features an integrated TV-tuner with Teletext, Sony's X-black technology, PiP capability, composite/S-Video and component video input and SRS WOW Surround System (2x3W + 5W woofer). It also has a high-speed panel (12ms response time), sleep mode timer and auto channel installation.

The flagship P-Series is specifically designed to optimise professional applications such as broadcast media and video editing. The P234's 1920 x 1200 (2.3 megapixel) native resolution delivers almost three times the workspace afforded by conventional XGA. The display is also superior ergonomically, giving an exceptionally large viewable diagonal of 23 inches, meaning that the combination of generous dimensions and high resolution is sufficient for two A4 pages to be displayed in full, side by side.

An increasing number of retail outlets are introducing digital advertising to promote their own products, build the brand or simply to attract people into the store. Sony's smart 32-inch LCD display is coated with a tough acrylic layer to ensure the display looks good despite any knocks, so is ideal for use in public areas. Apart from featuring HD resolution, this public display features the WEGA Engine, specifically designed to ensure smooth video playback and image display from analogue and digital sources.

Similar to the FWD-32LX1, the FWD-42LX1 offers the same elegant design, high quality image, HD capabilities and WEGA Engine but on a bigger, 42-inch screen. The screens are also suited for displaying time schedules or other types of information in public places such as airports and train stations.

Specifically designed for professional applications, from advertising in shopping malls to videoconferencing in corporate boardrooms, the FWD-50PX1N is the largest public display in the line-up. This 50-inch plasma screen is extremely durable yet comes in a sleek, silver and eye-catching design. With no effective limit to the number of colours it can display, this model is ideal for all types of visual content. The FWD-50PX1N plasma also incorporates the high-performance scan converter, which produces smooth and flawless images on a WXGA resolution screen. A wide range of optional interface boards, speakers and secured brackets ensures various installation requirements can be met.

The next step in the PFM-Series, the 42-inch plasma display PFM-42X1N features higher resolution and contrast so is well positioned to meet the demands of Point-Of-Information (POI) and business presentations, but equally detailed graphics and high resolution images in, for example, showrooms. The display offers the same high-performance scan converter as the PFM-42V1N, with additionally top class contrast, brightness, high resolution and over 1 billion colours.
