SHARP ENTERS BOOMING MICRO DISPLAY REAR-PROJECTION HIGH DEFINITION TV MARKET WITH UNIQUELY STYLED, HIGH PERFORMANCE 56- AND 65-INCH DLP MODELS

LAS VEGAS, NV, January 6, 2005 -- With sales of ever-growing big-screen digital televisions soaring, Sharp today introduced four new stylish, widescreen rear-projection High Definition Televisions (HDTVs) featuring the award-winning Texas Instruments DLP™ micro-display technology. Available in 56- and 65-inch screen sizes, the quartet has a unique "V" shape design with a flat panel appearance, and the powerful, impressive DLP picture quality for which Sharp has become so well known in the Front Projector category.

"Sharp has years of expertise refining DLP technology, which is featured in the award-winning SharpVision® front projectors that are used in the best home theaters across the country. Now we're bringing our extensive DLP knowledge to the rear-projection category. The results on display here at CES are elegantly designed TVs that deliver stunning high-definition picture quality at a competitive price," said Bob Scaglione, senior vice president, Consumer Electronics Marketing Group, Sharp Electronics Corporation.

These new 65- and 56-inch rear projection TVs – the 650 and 750 series – feature a revolutionary television design with a sophisticated "V"-shape cabinet with a flat-panel appearance and built-in stands, making them perfect home theater centerpieces. Measuring only 15.7-inches deep for 56", these integrated HDTVs fit easily into most living rooms. Just as important as the design, the new televisions deliver beautiful video and lifelike sound. These innovative models have excellent brightness levels, superior contrast ratios and wide viewing angles that place their performance at the top of their class. The TI DLP chip, combined with Sharp's DLP engineering prowess, produces outstanding 720p HDTV images. In order to make life simple for consumers, both series of new televisions have built-in NTSC and ATSC tuners for receiving free over-the-air analog and digital broadcasts. All have advanced HDMI and component inputs, giving home theater enthusiasts the ability to build systems that meet their individual needs by adding state-of-the art digital devices such as DVD recorders and set-top boxes.

Additionally, the 750 Series is CableCARD™ ready so they can handle HDTV signals delivered by many cable systems.* These sets will also feature a brilliant picture, the highly-rated GemStar Electronic Program Guide, and SRS® TruSurroundXT™ circuitry for a more powerful sound experience.

"These first models are a great kickoff for Sharp's DLP rear projection lineup. Our dealers and customers can be assured that we are committed to staying on the leading edge of this category," Scaglione continued.
