LG.Philips LCD Becomes First TFT-LCD Industry Player to Receive
Internationally Recognized Environmental Product Declaration Certification

SEOUL, Korea --(Business Wire)-- July 3, 2005 LG.Philips LCD Co., Ltd. (NYSE: LPL, KRX: 034220), one of the world's leading innovators of thin-film transistor liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) technology, recently became the first TFT-LCD manufacturer to attain Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) certification. The certification was awarded to LG.Philips LCD in June 2005 for its 32, 37 and 42-inch TFT-LCD panels for TV applications.

The EPD certification, which is issued by the Swedish Environmental Management Council (SEMC), is an environmental labeling system that is based on International Standards Organization (ISO) standards, and is one of the world's most respected environmental certifications. The SEMC awarded EPD certification based on an independent 'full life cycle' assessment of LG.Philips LCD's 32, 37, and 42-inch LCD TV panels.

This certification will help LG.Philips LCD to meet the increasing consumer demand for in-depth product information, and underscores the company's commitment to environment-friendly products and manufacturing processes. In particular, as the first TFT-LCD manufacturer to obtain EPD certification, LG.Philips LCD is helping to establish environmental information disclosure standards for the TFT-LCD industry, as a whole.

LG.Philips LCD is currently ahead of government regulations in terms of environmental standards, as all of its TFT-LCD TV panels already conform to RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances)(1) standards that will be implemented by the European Union in July 2006. The company has also ensured that its production processes for other TFT-LCD products, such as PC monitors and notebook PC panels, are ready to meet the rigorous RoHS standards.

As part of its commitment to the environment, LG.Philips LCD has adopted lead-free soldering in the production of all of its LCD TV panels, and is expanding its green house gas treatment system to include all of its production lines in order to reduce emissions of PFCs, one of most hazardous greenhouse gases.
