My Experience: I bought this discontinued model JVC HD-56G786 from Ubid for $829 shipped and add on a 3 year lamp (2 bulbs) and 5 year extended warranty. I’m using a Directv HD box and the picture and sound are great, I didn’t say excellent. My three year old 42 inch plasma still blows it away. There were a slight problem with the audio and the HDMI setup so I used the component cables. The set up menu for HDMI could be simpler but not really a major issue; eventually I will be installing an up converting DVD player to the HDMI. The TV is setup using a 300 watt uninterrupted power source (UPS), at least 18 inches from the wall between two vents. The average room temperature in the area that the TV will be sitting is 68-78 degrees and relatively dust free. I reset the lamp adjustment to maximize the lamps life, but I’m only expecting about 5800-7000 hours and in my house that about 18-20 months because we average about 12 hours a night (GET THE LAMP WARRANTY). I will submit an update if I have any problems and when the lamp starts going out
