My Experience: I have been a Mitsubishi big screen owner since 1996 and have been MORE THAN HAPPY with the performance of my previous big screen with more than 60,000 hours of viewing on it without a single projection bulb replacement or repair of any kind. In October, I decided to purchase a new Mitsubishi with all the bells and whistles...a 62827. Since we received the unit in late October, here's a summary of my experience:

Great HD picture and nice contrast between dark and light and between colors.

The picture is slow to render from a power off to power on position (approximately 10-15 seconds).

The DVR is very slow with pause function taking as much as 30 seconds to kick in...and then, it does not allow for a frame by frame analysis.

The fast forward and rewind functions look impressive but are not nearly as usable as their TIVO and cable box DVR counterparts.

Additionally, the TV Guide feature is very cumbersome...it's very, very difficult to custom program and it's very slow to render from one screen to the next in comparison to cable and satellite boxes with the same kind of functionality.

As for the cable card functionality, we have Time Warner Cable, and clearly the technical support we have received with the cable card has been weak at best. It is clear that the cable providers do not want the cable card to cannibalize their more profitable cable box revenue and their investment into customer service is the most obvious evidence of their lack of support. At this time the cable card technology seems to be in its early stages and seems to be an early adopter technology...if you choose not to be an early adopter of technological advances, consider avoiding the cable card at this time.

The remote control issued with this unit is not user friendly and intuitive like the better TIVO remote or the long passed away STARSIGHT remote. This remote was designed by Mitsubishi...it has all the keys on it...they are simply not placed intuitively for most users.

Lastly, Mitsubishi Customer Service has been very difficult to reach to address any of these issues.

But, if it's a good HD picture you're looking for, the 62827, has a wonderful picture. Just don't buy the unit for the other bells and whistles (cable card functionality, TV Guide fucntionality, DVR functionality, or remote user-friendliness)...your dollars would be better spent in paying the additional monthly charge with your cable or satellite provider for their boxes and DVR functions.

Reliability rating note: I have assessed the reliability of our previous Mitsubishi product since we have only had this unit for about one month. It is too early to determine product reliability on this unit.

I hope this review helps you as you seek to make a decision regarding your purchase.
