My Experience: I use to own a 42" Sanyo Plasma about 2 years ago. Sold it and have been sorry since. This is why I bought this newer model since the other one was discontinued.
First let me say that compared side by side with a 42" LCD by Sanyo/Sony/LG/Vizio there was a definite difference in the depth of color ( blacker blacks and whiter whites) and sharper edges to the image of the DP42740 over all of these other LCD's with compareable specs. The 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio also helps in this area. Secondly, the DP42740 being a plasma has a clear screen over the picture area that protects it from "little fingers" and accidental screen touching. Third, My previous experience with Sanyo Plasmas was outstanding in every way. Fourth, The DP42740 has enough HDMI inputs for my use and more than enough other inputs as well as the USB input for flash stick picture viewing. The DP42740's remote is user friendly and easy to see and operate. Compared to other similar 42"plasma's the DP42740 stood out to me over all the others. Great buy especially for the price ( 399.00) best value out there for a 42" plasma by far. Sound was good and very adjustable from the remote. The dynamic audio is good for leveling sound changes from shows to commercials also.

Problems: None so far and I really don't expect any. 100,000 hours from the backlite is dependable as it gets. That equate to 4,166 days or 11.5 years of constant use which if you use it 8 hours a day it would be more like 34 years. So I'm thinking I'll be 94 before it burns out on me.
