My Experience: Picture quality of HDTV is excellent. In fact, when watching non-HD sources, you'll wish for more full-blown HD programming. HD sports, whether baseball or football, golf or even tennis, look awesome, unbelievably awesome. If you have an antenna that will recieve over-the-air broadcasts (and a good location to recieve the signals), your picture quality will be better at home than in video stores. Travel shows (HD, of course) allow you to "experience" the majesty of the scenic views being displayed. Late night talk shows look fantastic, with clarity, color and detail that cannot be seen without HD.

Problems: If you get really close to the screen, it does not have the same clarity, color and contrast as a 32" to 36" tube tv able to display 1080i, but from normal viewing distances the picture quality is jawdropping, with a combination of picture size, clarity and price that can't be beat. Initially, dvd's looked blurred & distorted. The first settings changed in an attempt to correct this was color, contrast, brightness and iris, which helped a little but ultimately did not improve picture clarity (still blurred). But after making a few more adjustments (basically turning "off" all image enhancing features), the picture cleaned up and now dvd's look very good, some of them even impressively good, ultimately still not as clean as full HD, but very good nonetheless.
